Disability game at Wavertree

YCYC 52-4 (Net score 232) (Xanthe Page 1-4) Mersey Rose 70-1 (Net score 265) (Dave Leivesley 20) Mersey Rose won by 33 runs On Tuesday afternoon the softball team played against a team from Your Voice Your Choice (YVYC), a local disability charity that provides a day service for people with autism and learning disabilities. YVYC uses sporting activity to create a pathway to independence.

The game was played at Wavertree CC in a pairs format with YVYC’s team of 14 players batting for two overs each. It became obvious that some of their players were quite good, and the opening pair added 17 runs, including two sixes. The next pair was pegged back when Xanthe Page took a wicket with her first ball but they also managed to add a few runs and everyone who batted in their innings contributed something. It was good to see their players hitting the ball around positively and enjoying the game.

YVYC scored a creditable 52 runs from 14 overs for the loss of 4 wickets, giving them a net score of 232. Mersey Rose performed well in the field with Heidi Page in particular covering a lot of ground.

YVYC played with 15 in the field (another player arrived slightly late!) as Mersey Rose began their innings with Andi Page and Heidi Page. For the second game in a row Heidi finished on an unbeaten 5. YVYC took a wicket when Xanthe Page was bowled but the final two pairs of Dave Trenner/Andrew Foster and Dave Leivesley/Ian Mosquito played some good cricket to help the hosts to a score of 70 for 1. There was a great chance for YVYC to pick up their second wicket but unfortunately what would have been a fine catch off Andrew Foster wasn’t held.

The game was played without wides and no-balls for the benefit of people new to cricket. We hope everyone with YVYC enjoyed the game and we look forward to welcoming you back for a series of taster sessions next month.
